Imbued in the fragments of our minds is the hope of safety. The world may be in conflict on how to achieve it. However, everything is at a standstill when it comes to the unspoken mutual agreement of protecting what we love. As such, it is where information and communications technology (ICT) comes in. We are in a fast-paced society where new technologies emerge every day.

         Such technologies allow us to create a more secure environment. However, it still has its cons, as it also produces threats that range from poverty to national security. A suitable example is the complete digitalization plan of the Philippine government. It is an ambitious project aiming to transform the Philippines into a cashless society. The project encourages economic development as it entails digital banking.

          But, as I have mentioned, it can produce issues. One can take, for example, the cashless transactions at toll gates. The service provides a more efficient and convenient way for drivers to pay the fees. It can save people the trouble of waiting in line since the transaction can be done in a few seconds. Consequentially, it puts hardworking Filipinos out of a job. One could say it is a double-edged sword.

          The forceful imposition of the said project also risks the network security of Filipinos. As we are all aware, the Philippines is lagging in terms of technology and innovation. The government does not have enough funds to push through with digital transformation in rural areas. It affects people's internet literacy, making us unequipped to use the internet. Thus, it increases the chances of cyber dangers and data breaches.

          ICT has the power to shed light on important issues that might be overlooked. It's possible that many people are not aware of the injustices happening in our country at the moment. Through ICT, we can create a platform for positive change and work towards the betterment of our nation.
